Ever since I was a little girl, the Mouth of Truth has provoked feelings of fear and curiousity. My father used to force me into placing my hand into the unknown depths of that face in front of a line of tourists. Once in place, he'd ask me a yes or no question. I'd wince and reply. To the joy of my dad, and I, my hand has never been chomped off.
Located in the portico of the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome, this face-shaped sculpture has been used as a lie detector for centuries.
Millions of visitors test their lovers, spouses and friends every year. So why don't you?
The San Teodoro apartment is located just behind the Mouth of Truth. Romantic, cosy and convenient, it has a lofted bedroom, living room with sofa-bed, a kitchenette and a bathroom.
